MADDEN 23 FACE OF THE FRANCHISE DB EP248: OUR RENDITION OF THE NO NAME DEFENSE...
The 1972 Miami Dolphins football team was the first in NFL history to go undefeated in the regular season (14-0) and the first to run the table and win every game played in that season, winning the Super Bowl with a record of 17-0. That team would proceed to win back to back titles as they won the Super Bowl the following year under head coach Don Shula. They defensive unit was given the nickname "the No Name Defense" for the lack of any bona fide superstars on that side of the ball aside from HOF Nick Buoniconti. Not to say there aren't any other HOF players on that defense, but at the time, it was more hailed for it's togetherness as a cohesive unit and the scheme deployed by the coaching staff. In this gameplay, after having the success our team has experienced, we take the field in our solid black practice jerseys. There are no names on the backs of these uniforms as we look to capture the mystique of the previous undefeated Dolphins record which in real life has stood the test of time as no team has ever went undefeated and won the Super Bowl since then. We as a team want to remember the roots of tradition that derive from the sport at the lower levels, where the privilege to don the football uniform and play organized sports meant more than anything in the world to some kids growing up. We wish in this gameplay and moving forward to be recognized as a team, not by our grouping of special individuals or the greatness of the coaching staff and the scheme we enact. We are your Arizona Cardinals. We present you our rendition of the no name defense.
