Kind of managed to recreate (in a very less detailed form though) the awesome Rive app nested comp "quad tree" thing made recently my
@jerryliustudio (you can see his latest experiment on his profile ; follow him because his work is so inspiring!)

...but, this time, within #aftereffects and a bit of MoglyphFX, my procedural cloning and animation toolset (available on my aescripts store : link in bio)

Of course I had to pre-render the cursor animation since After Effects can't do interactive stuff, but I find the technic (using and masking 2 grids with half and full resolution + a sample image expression on each time that tracks the cursor's motion in order to drive the time remapped animated pattern) to work pretty well !
