Mafia 2: Definitive Edition is an action-adventure video game developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K Games. A remake of the 2010 video game Mafia 2, it was announced in May 2020 and is scheduled for release in September 2020 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game is set within a redesigned version of the fictional city of Empire Bay (New York City, with significant influences from Chicago and San Francisco) in the mid-1940s and early 1950s, and the story follows Vito Scaletta, a young Sicilian-American mobster and war veteran, who becomes caught in a power struggle among the city's Mafia crime families while attempting to pay back his father's debts and secure a better lifestyle.
Mafia II: Definitive Edition is a remastered version of the original 2010 game, featuring improved graphics, reworked lighting, and enhanced sound design, while retaining the original story and gameplay. Players once again take on the role of Vito Scaletta, a war veteran who becomes entangled in the world of organized crime in Empire Bay during the 1940s and 1950s. The game combines third-person shooting and driving mechanics, allowing players to explore the city on foot or by vehicle. Unlike the full remake approach used for Mafia: Definitive Edition, Mafia II: Definitive Edition is a remaster built on the original game’s engine, preserving its missions, structure, and core mechanics.
In the 1940s, following his return from World War II, Sicilian-born immigrant Vito Scaletta finds himself struggling to support his family in the city of Empire Bay. After being arrested during a failed robbery, Vito is offered a chance to clear his criminal record by serving in the U.S. Army. Upon returning home, he reunites with his childhood friend Joe Barbaro, who introduces him to the world of organized crime. Seeking to pay off his late father’s debts and escape poverty, Vito begins working for various crime families in Empire Bay, quickly becoming involved with influential mobsters such as Henry Tomasino and Eddie Scarpa as he rises through the ranks of the Mafia.
