The Magellan eXplorist 310 provides a decent range of features for a keen price. You can add waypoints, record tracks, and search nearby Points of Interest and Geocache locations. The device itself is waterproof to IPX-7 standard, with robust rubberised buttons. It only has 512MB of built-in memory and no Micro SD slot, but if the high price was preventing you from trying out GPS-enabled hiking before, this device won't break the bank.
