Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy have joined forces in an epic collaboration that launched June 13, 2025. This groundbreaking Universes Beyond set is the first crossover of its kind to be fully Standard‑legal, offering over 100 legendary creature cards featuring heroes like Cloud, Terra, Lightning, Noctis—and even iconic monsters and summons such as chocobos and behemoths—from all 16 mainline Final Fantasy games.
Built to thrill fans of both franchises, the set introduces fresh mechanics inspired by Final Fantasy’s systems—most notably the “Tiered” spells mirroring spell progression (for example, “fire → firaga”) and “Saga Creatures” that evoke summons and story arcs. Wizards and Square Enix emphasized that this set includes “the largest collection of Final Fantasy artwork ever in a single game,” blending classic art from legends like Amano and Nomura with bold new illustrations by Magic artists.
Beyond the booster packs and gameplay integration, the launch features specialty items like foil full‑art lands, a Collector Bundle with a Spindown life counter, Commander decks built around protagonists (Cloud, Terra, Tidus, and Y’shtola), and striking chase cards such as the serialized golden Chocobo (only 77 printed).
The set also premiered digitally on June 11 via MTG Arena and Magic Online ahead of the tabletop release.
