Magical Drop V - Unlocking McCoy
So, thanks to NakaTeleeli's "Let's Try" videos, I became interested in playing this game myself. I downloaded the demo first, then eventually purchased the full game (along with a few other games) just before Steam's holiday sale ended on January 5th.
I've already unlocked Fortune (by beating Hard with any non-Ghostlop character, and continues are allowed) and Mushman (by beating Insane with a Ghostlop character, and continues are allowed again, but beating Hard with Bruce didn't unlock Mushman-- I only got him after beating Insane with Bruce). Note that Fortune and Mushman can't be used in story mode (at least right now-- maybe a future patch will change that), so they won't show up on the character select screen when playing story mode.
So, I decided to try unlocking McCoy (or as Naka likes to call him, "Luigi") next, and decided to record my attempts (I go through the conversations quickly, so if you want to read them, pause the video). To unlock McCoy, I believe you have to play story mode on Normal or harder using Bruce, defeat the first nine opponents without using a continue, and defeat the ninth opponent within 40 seconds. Then, McCoy will show up. Defeat him, and then complete the game in order to unlock him. And, unlike Fortune and Mushman, McCoy can be used in story mode.
Now, apparently, continues are allowed after you've defeated McCoy, because I had some bad luck and lost to Mushman afterwards twice (and then I crushed him in about six seconds the third time, LOL!), but I still unlocked McCoy afterwards anyway. (I don't know if you're allowed to lose to McCoy himself, since I beat him on my first try.)
Also, I found an oddity (maybe it's a glitch): When a battle first starts, I can manually add more lines of ghosts to my side of the field (so I have more stuff to knock down and potentially attack the opponent with), but after I've thrown the ball once, the manual drop function stops working for some reason, preventing me from adding more lines at will like that.
Another minor glitch I found: When knocking down several ghosts at once, you'll see an "Attack x #" show up, indicating the strength of your attack, but if I knock down huge numbers of ghosts at once, I sometimes see "Attack x 0" (or maybe "Attack x 1", etc.), and I'm betting it's just failing to display the tens digit, so it should actually say "Attack x 10" (or "Attack x 11", etc.), but I think my attack is actually of the proper strength. It's just not displaying the two-digit number properly.
Maybe both of those things will be fixed in a future patch.
Also, what exactly does the "Clear Bonus" (from destroying everything on your side of the screen at once) do? It doesn't look like it's really helping my score... Is it increasing my attack power or something? And another thing: Is it even possible to get an "S" rank with a Ghostlop character? Even my six-second victory against Mushman only got an "A"... (In case you're wondering, I certainly have gotten S-ranks with the regular Magical Drop characters before.)
Now, I wonder if I can unlock Black Pierrot... (Too bad I won't have it as easy as Naka did, due to patch 5.) I will record my attempts at that, and if I succeed, I'll upload a video of it!
Also, do any of you guys want me to upload videos of any random online battles I manage to get into? (It does seem difficult to find opponents online due to the usually low number of online players, but I have already gotten into a couple online battles, so it's not impossible, just very unlikely most of the time.)
Feel free to comment, but just know that I dislike profanity. Any comments containing F-bombs and/or S-bombs will be mashed into mush! (In other words, they'll be deleted.)
(Comments containing other types of inappropriate content may meet this fate as well.)
