10,402The Inventables Carvey 3D Carving Machine is the opposite of a 3D printer. It creates its designs by removing (subtractive) excess material from the source material to reveal your design instead of depositing it on a surface (additive) like a 3D printer does. This means you can have stronger parts, transparency and use a much wider variety of materials. Q - Why don't you just 3D print the Fidget Spinners?
A - You totally can 3D print Fidget Spinners, they just won't be as durable or transparent but you can much more sophisticated designs. I recommend every maker invest in both a CNC Router & 3D Printer and use them together for best results.
Q - Can you cut at different depths to give a 3D effect like carving out a face?
A - Yes, as long as the design doesn't have overhangs you can cut varying geometry.
Q - Can you stack together cuts and build more complex things?
A - Yes, you can print out layers and glue them together to build bigger complex items.
Q - Why did you get the Carvey when you have an X-Carve?
A - The X-Carve was just to big for my little space and to messy, the Carvey is a much quieter and cleaner machine.
