Mandrake was a popular Linux distribution from the early 2000s, which became Mandriva before ultimately becoming nonexistent. At the time it was the popular distribution for new Linux users, but it was actually a powerful operating system taking cues from both Red Hat and Debian. At around the same time, the TransGaming company came into being, selling customized solutions for running Windows games on Linux. Mandrake, TransGaming and (to some extent) Electonic Arts all came together to create a custom version of Mandrake Linux that came with The Sims. This is the *only* official release of The Sims for Linux, so it's a fascinating artifact. In this video, I twiddle about like an idiot trying to get the damned thing working.
