Come On! (Battle Theme) from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.
(Technically, this takes cues from the DX version from the 3DS remake, but "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions - Come On! DX (Genesis Arrangement)" is a way too long feckin' title)

Original composer: Yoko Shimomura

Another M&L track already? Yes.
I'm in a very Mario & Luigi-ish mood right now...

...

So I decided to one-up myself immediately after doing the PiT Koopaseum theme. This is, without a doubt, my greatest work on the Genesis (in my opinion, at least). : )
I'm not sure if I'd call it my favorite, though. I'm very fickle.

This is one of my favorite vidya game tracks, so I hope I did it justice. Honestly, not at all fitting for a battle theme, but then again, what Mario & Luigi game *does* have a fitting (normal) battle theme? Partners in Time, I suppose. Certainly not Dream Team, though. lel

And of course, I had to finish the track off with the battle win theme. It wouldn't feel complete, otherwise.

Surely, you've noticed that I've abused the heck out of the DualPCM. Maybe I went a bit overboard with all of the voice samples. Each bro uses 15 in this arrangement. Of course, all of them at low sample rates and converted to ADPCM-A samples.

What's ADPCM, you ask? The short of it is that it's a lossy compression of audio.
Say that you have a 16-bit WAV that's 5,000 samples long. It would take up 10,000 bytes of space.
An 8-bit WAV of the same length would take up half of that space, or only 5,000 bytes (the same as the WAV's length in samples).
ADPCM goes further and only takes up half the amount of space as the amount of samples it is (2,500 bytes, for this hypothetical).

There's a bunch of other little things that I'm sure other people care about, like quantization, and such, but that's not really important here.

Basically, it's why I can use so many samples, and also why they sound so *crunchy*.

Well, crunch*ier*. They'd already sound so crunchy on a Genesis...

...

Happy Mother's Day, btw.
