I had a debate over which time I wanted to put because the old record uses SDA timing which allows it to leave 8-9 seconds unaccounted for.
I eventually decided to leave the same 8-9 seconds unaccounted for for this time, but is otherwise a 21:38 with this scheme.
In particular, SDA timing starts as soon as you can control Luigi and ends as soon as you open the final door after beating Roy.
My time starts as soon as you press Start and ends once the final door is closed.
The advantages of SDA are that the timing is narrowed down only on the scope of what you are doing to play the game quickly.
The disadvantage of course is that you often add starting the timer along with all of the other buttons you have to press to start moving as well as being susceptible to final split errors with having to stop the timer while making the final move of the game. SDA timing is from an era before using on-screen timer software.
The other disadvantage is that SDA timing generally results in the lowest presented time for a run, whereas all other timing methods produce a time which looks higher. Thus, I have chosen to present my time as an SDA time rather than the 21:38 seen on the on-screen timer.
