I failed this mission once but got it the second try after realising I could use the pipes to move back and forth from end to end of the map. Otherwise it would be very difficult.

These 3 characters seem optimum at this point for most all situations. A healer and two characters that have 3 overwatch type attacks each (for enemies that move during thier turn). Ontop of that two of the characters have remote control vehicles that distract enemy fire and do massive damage to 1 or multiple enemies, block off routes for charging enemies, etc.
