A Close Call: Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane's Near Miss on 9/11

On September 11, 2001, both Mark Wahlberg and Seth MacFarlane were scheduled to board American Airlines Flight 11, the first plane hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. In an eerie twist of fate, both men narrowly escaped the flight.

Seth MacFarlane missed the plane by just a few minutes after a hangover from the night before caused him to arrive late at the airport. Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg made a last-minute change to his travel plans and opted to take a private jet to Toronto for a film festival instead.

Years later, Mark Wahlberg made headlines when he claimed that if he had been on the flight, it wouldn’t have crashed, suggesting he could have prevented the attack. His comments were widely criticized as insensitive, and Wahlberg later apologized for the remark.

In a more lighthearted turn, 14 years after the tragedy, Seth and Mark found a way to reference 9/11 in their film Ted 2, blending the event into the movie’s signature dark humor. Despite their close calls, both men’s near-misses serve as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the lasting impact of 9/11 on the world.
