Marshalls acid \( \left(\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{~S}_{2} \mathrm{O}_{8}\right) \) or peroxo disulphuric acid is prepared by the electrolytic oxidation of \( \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{SO}_{4} \) as

\( \mathrm{O}_{2}(\mathrm{~g}) \) and \( \mathrm{H}_{2}(\mathrm{~g}) \) are obtained as by products. In such electrolysis, \( 4.48 \mathrm{~L} \) of \( \mathrm{H}_{2}(\mathrm{~g}) \) and \( 1.12 \mathrm{~L} \) of \( \mathrm{O}_{2}(\mathrm{~g}) \) were produced at STP.
