29Marvel Legends Jean Grey Sugar Man Wave review. X-Men Age of Apocalypse build-a-figure BAF Wave released in 2020. This line of comic book based action figures include Wild Child, Morph, X-Man Nate Grey, Jean Grey, Sunfire, Weapon X, Dark Beast, and Sugar Man, an interesting range of heroes and villains. This entire wave is based on the Age of Apocalypse storyline from the mid-90s by many writers including Scott Lobdell, Mark Waid, Fabian Nicieza, John Francis Moore, Larry Hama, Warren Ellis, Jeph Loeb, Howard Mackie, and Terry Kavanagh. Jean Grey is one of the best action figures from this wave, I think. And overall, I think she's pretty accurate to her age of apocalypse appearance. Now, she has drawn all kinds of different ways during that series, so it's kind of hard to pick and choose which design to use, but I think that overall this one matches her design pretty closely. So the first thing I noticed, looking at Jean Grey is that her action figure was less Jean Grey and more Sugar Man's head with Jean Grey action figure. But that aside, her head sculpt's so good and her upper body is good. And actually the whole action figure looks good because it's got all these little folds all up and down the body that make it look like she's actually wearing this cloth costume and not just a pair of spandex. A couple of the elements that really set this one apart is the top of her costume, and you can feel it. That part of the costume is a separate raised element, so it feels like it's actually there, and I always appreciate that sort of thing whenever we see it, because it really elevates the quality in my eye. And also we see that her shoulder pads are separate elements on her body and that again elevates the quality, then follows the folds all up and down the arms. And once we get to the ends of the sleeves, they aren't just painted on her hands, they're actually sleeves. Unfortunately, she doesn't come with any special effects or accessories, so none of her powers are really represented here.
