gonna be doing several arcade mode plays with my favorite teams til I get enough points to earn the rest of the characters and stages. love this game and my memories associated with the first times playing it at my local mall's arcade then shortly after picking up the Dreamcast port. good contender at being one of the greatest fighting games of all time...

"Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes is a crossover fighting game developed and published by Capcom. It is the fourth installment in the Marvel vs. Capcom series, which features characters from both Capcom's video game franchises and comic book series published by Marvel Comics. Originally released on Sega NAOMI arcade system in 2000, the game received ports to the Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox, Xbox 360, and iOS devices over the span of twelve years.

In Marvel vs. Capcom 2, players select a team of characters from the Marvel and Capcom universes to engage in combat and attempt to knock out their opponents. While the game uses similar tag team-based game mechanics to the series' previous iteration, Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes, it features several significant changes, such as three-on-three gameplay, a new character assist system, and a more simplified control scheme. The character artwork uses traditional 2D-animated sprites, while the backgrounds and visual effects are rendered in 3D. This makes Marvel vs. Capcom 2 the first game in the franchise to feature 2.5D graphics.

The game received positive reviews from critics, who praised its gameplay, visuals, and character roster, while criticizing its soundtrack and initial lack of online multiplayer support outside Japan. Since its release, it has been considered one of the best fighting games of all time as well as one of the greatest games of all time in general. Following its release, Capcom lost the use of the Marvel Comics license, putting the series on a decade-long hiatus.

On the Dreamcast version, content is unlocked in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 through an in-game shop. While Western versions use a single in-game currency generated from playing the game normally, the Japanese version uses three currencies, with rewards generated from networked matches and by taking a VMU to a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 arcade machine and playing the game there. As no forms of online play are supported outside of Japan, and the arcade cabinet significantly rarer, this feature was dropped in the overseas editions of the game."
