Welcome back to Durag Nation! This week has been one for the history books, a week where legends are truly made, especially for Marvel's Spider-Man 2. We've been bombarded with a treasure trove of details from the vibrant halls of San Diego Comic-Con, and yet, it seems like we're still only at the tip of the iceberg.
I'm here to make sense of the sensory overload, to dissect, discuss, and deliver you the must-knows, the wow moments, and the jaw-dropping surprises. If you're thrilled for Spider-Man 2, smash that like button. If you make it to the end and feel underwhelmed, your dislike is equally appreciated.
No official livestream from the Symbiotic Relationships panel? No problem. Smartphones were our eyes and ears, and the internet did not disappoint. Full footage, live reactions, a digital front-row seat to the event. And boy, was it worth revisiting.
What a spectacle it was! Yuri Lowenthal busting out the Bully McGuire Dance and Tony Todd's chilling Venom voice. Then, the grand reveal of the Story Trailer, and the unveiling of the Spider-Man 2 PS5 launch bundle. I might add, I called those in my video just the day before Comic-Con!
This launch bundle, reminiscent of the Spider-Man PS4 release, features a custom PS5 console and controller. As Jacinda Chew, the Senior Art Director revealed during the panel, the design embodies the precarious struggle between Spider-Man and the Symbiote. A balance of power so delicate, it's impossible to predict the victor.
Eyeing that controller, though, it seems Peter's on the cusp of becoming Venom. Bundled in is a voucher for the standard version of Spider-Man 2, all set for a September 1st release. The game is yours to play from midnight if you pre-order. Speaking of which, pre-orders begin next Friday, the 28th. You have the option to buy each item individually if you're not interested in the complete package. No official pricing, but expect nothing less than $500.
There's more. The panel revealed impressive concept art, the prospect of visiting Aunt May's house, and the painstaking process behind the game's Venom design. He's meant to be menacing yet swift, a combination that gave birth to their 'Tank Venom'.
There's some dissent on Venom's White Spider design, but personally, I am all for their creative approach. Similarly, the redesign of Mary Jane stirred a social media storm. In my humble opinion, the new MJ looks terrific. Still, Miles could use some waves, don't you think?
For Comic-Con day 2, an exclusive interview with Creative Director Brian Intihar and Mr. Marvel Games himself, Bill Roseman, was on the cards, but it's yet to see the light of day. Rest assured, I'll keep you posted.
