Mass Effect 1 - CrossOver 24, 2019 MacBook Pro
After a bit of legwork & following a few guides online (and some mild bad language due to the launch screen never going away) I managed to get Mass Effect up & running on an Intel! MacBook Pro! It performs surprisingly well, however shader compilation is a real pain (I'm told that running the game in D3Dmetal mode on M-series Macs resolves this; no D3Dmetal is available on Intel Macs).
3/5 Stars
Pros:
after shader compilation, plays really well
Cutscene audio seems fine
Gameplay is mostly smooth; on a high frame rate monitor it's not too bad
Cons:
shader compilation eventually smooths out some - even after a couple hours of gameplay there's still some bad stutters that occur, just less frequently
In any dual-monitor setup the mouse is not properly captured by the game. Only single-screen fullscreen will keep the mouse in-game. A controller is strongly recommended for Windowed or Borderless Fullscreen
You need to move the game launcher to a different screen or virtual desktop to prevent it from overlaying on the middle of your monitor. There's no way to avoid this on first launch, game needs to be stopped via Steam/Force Quit after making the change to "Windowed" mode.
EA game launcher crashes in the background which causes the game to CMD+Tab out of the game.
Steam notifications will shift focus of the game without giving any visual indicator this is happening
