Seems very similar to 'Rocky' for Sega Master System albeit not having played it.
In this boxing game, you can build up their stats based on how you finished your opponent and you have more control over your footwork. Couldn't really execute the different attacks other than the special punch but I hardly saw the opponent do anything but jabs and straights as well. -
