Mavericks 3: Zero's Revenge is the third in a series of three (soon to be four I believe) rpg fangames created by Sigmav set in the Megaman X universe.

More off screen grinding done. You'll find out quickly that I have to do this if I don't want every single fight devolving into a Harpuia versus the world styled battle at this point. Hell, Harpuia would have struggled with one of the Sigma Tower 1 bosses at his previous level.

Anyways, my grinding consisted of repeated spam of the mid boss in Dynamo Man's stage with the metals I picked up going to some shiny MkIII Boots. Granting a +250 boost to agility is going to do wonders for whomever equips it. It could go to X & Zero to make them not suck or I could give one to Harpuia to ensure he's always getting at least one turn or more for every turn a boss gets.

But enough of that, there's one area I wanted to show off before we dive into Sigma Tower and that's in Dark Dizzy's stage. Remember the pair of purple blocks seen early on? Those were removed upon completion of the Sigma Palace stage. Behind it is a short bit of stage leading to a warp going to...a secret stage, oh my!

The secret stage isn't really that special, but has one good prize contained within its walls. For now though, it's a straight shot until you find yourself at a battlefield. Clear out all five battles and the door leading to a teleport is unlocked. I saved you all the bother of watching over a minute of Harpuia ending battles instantly and edited it all out.

Anyways, the teleport that is now accessible leads to a...boss fight? Surprising, but mainly for the individual you're fighting, another of the guardians of the fake X in the future, Phantom. Unlike the present company in our party, he's not so easily swayed and needs to be taught a lesson.

Phantom can be scary at low levels. His two attacks that hit everyone are painful and his single target strikes are not ignorable either. The only reason this fight went by smoothly as it stands is because I was overleveled for this area. Five or ten less levels and it'd be more of a threat.

With his death, you can explore deeper into the secret area to find yet another battlefield that gets edited out and, once again, completing it unlocks a door and lets you take a teleporter to another boss and...surprise, it's another one of fake X's guardians, Leviathan.

Leviathan is much more dangerous than Phantom, though you may not notice it at first. She has three moves, but only one (Spearheads) hits everyone. It can do close to or over 2000 damage though.

Her other two moves, much like Phantom, are single target and rather painful. Ice Lance alone can get close to 3000 damage.

Yet...this isn't the hardest part of the fight. After she's taken enough damage (with Thunder Shock spam to hit her weakness of course), she...changes form. Yup, she's smart enough to utilize her second form she has in Mega Man Zero 2.

First thing's first...her weakness has changed. It's now Storm Tornado.

Secondly, all her attacks now hit all party members. Ice Spikes is the weakest, Dash is the strongest, and Ice Beasts is in between those two. She's also rather fast, but my overleveled team is up to the challenge.

Taking her out unlocks the way to the final boss in this secret area. Shouldn't be a surprise to see yet another Mega Man Zero boss, Copy X. The usual banter occurs, then he attacks.

To be perfectly honest, he's a disgrace. Granted, Ground Fire can hit for nearly 3000 damage, but that is by far the worst thing he can do and I have four people on my team. I think you've lost you failure of a copy.

That's not all! Copy X too has a second form. You would expect him to take up his final form from Mega Man Zero 1 which would be pretty amusing here, but no, he turns into...three wireframe X heads? Uh...ok.

The second form? There have been some easy fights (Copy X, that means YOU dingbat), but this fight against three wireframe X heads takes the goddamned cake, runs away with it, eats it all up, then comes back for second helpings and runs away again.

No lie, the worst damage you'll be taking here is maybe 550 damage from ONE attack.

Want to know what's worse? These wireframe heads have an absurd and frankly stupidly high amount of hp. If you didn't know that taking out the upper left wireframe head ends the battle instantly, you could be here for literally 15+ minutes. I'd expect that crap from a hard fight like Dark Falz 2 from Phantasy Star 4: Purgatory Mode, but not from something not even worthy of being called a boss here.

In any case, the reward for this entire detour? A green orb which is the easter egg/special item of this game. Everyone gets five free levels and you'll get 10k metals as well. Honestly that should have been less for the pathetic excuse of a fight Copy X was.

Sigma Tower next time!
