Maxis' Sporecast Tutorial - Improved Quality
4This is the official, vintage Maxis tutorial for making sporecasts for the game Spore. I did it as a sort of trial run of using auto-editor and Final Cut Pro to fix up boring videos. Works out pretty well, but I needed to upscale the footage outside of it because this thing is so low-res that it would just end up super blurry if I hadn't done it with something that allows nearest neighbor resizing (which Final Cut Pro doesn't, shockingly). Had to re-link the source video to the upscaled version of it, which caused FCP to derp out and crop it. Closing and reopening FCP fixed it though.
The only thing I would change about it at this point if I had the time and energy right now would be to process the frames through waifu2x, but that seems like it would take way too long. And the gain I don't think would be that much better than what you see here. I tried it out on a single frame of the Sporepedia UI, and it just looks OK.
