Mayday signals are *not* random! Space Engineers

I found that what I've read many times in the forums is not accurate about how Mayday signals are spawned.
They are not at all random, and are consistent between games, as long as you're in the same map (I'm using Star System).
Note that if you find some, but not all of these, you likely have too many NPC ships in your game already. It seems to cap out around 10. Delete or harvest a few, and more will start appearing when you approach their (predefined coordinates).
