Lyrics:
CHORUS: I’m Jupiter the 5th planet from the sun
Of all the planets in our solar system, I’m the biggest one!
Named after the Roman King of Gods- the God of the Sky
Just beyond the asteroid belt is where my path lies
In this system, I’m the biggest planet of all
Not a rocky planet, I’m a big gaseous ball
A gas giant planet, I have no surface on me
Just swirling gas and liquid as far as the eye can see
Not a terrestrial planet like Earth or Mercury
I don’t have a rocky solid surface on me
One of 4 Planets with Saturn, Neptune and Uranus
We are all giants with no real surface
We’re called the Jovian Planets, that is us
I’m mostly hydrogen and some helium
Very similar to the composition of our Sun
Some people think that I’m a failed star
But without enough mass, this is how things are
I wasn’t quite massive enough
But, I’m Jupiter the 5th planet from the sun
Of all the planets in our solar system, I’m the biggest one!
Named after the Roman King of Gods- the God of the Sky
Surrounded by moons of every shape and size
I have my own system all around me
At least 80 moons captured by my gravity
My moon Ganymede is larger than planet Mercury
And my icy moon Europa may have life for you to meet –
Ooh look, Space Fish!
The Jupiter Trojan Asteroids follow me around
With the same orbit round the sun as me, that’s where they’re found
I’m an asteroid vacuum, I draw objects to me
And keep stray objects from getting too close to Earth, EEK!
Look Out, Earth! I’ll get ‘em!
One day on me is about 10 hours I’d say
This is called a Jovian Solar Day,
I rotate really fast because I’m made of mostly gas
I bulge a little at my middle because I’m squished a little flat
My days may be short, but my years are long
It takes 11.86 earth years to orbit round the Sun
That’s 4,333 Earth days
Or 10,476 Jovian solar days
So many sunrises to amaze
I actually have rings, which is not known by many
There are only 4 and they’re faint and hard to see
You can only see them if you’re behind me looking at the Sun
from your perspective on Earth, it looks like I have none
Voyager 1 spacecraft found them in 1979
While photographing me from behind
I have my doughnut shaped Halo Ring, my Main Ring too
And my Amalthea and Thebe Gossamer rings are the fainter two
Made of dust particles from impacts on my inner moons
CHORUS
A visual work of art, I’m a fascinating guy
Visually, my cloud patterns are quite unique
Including belts and zones that are very distinct
My middle belts move faster than the bottom and the top
But what will really catch your eye, is my Great Red Spot
A storm that’s been raging for more than 300 years it’s thought
My clouds have ammonia, sulfur, and water, that sometimes combine
If you were to visit, a bad smell you would find
My atmosphere is dense and gets hotter and thicker the deeper you go
The brighter clouds are high above, while the darker are deep below
The pressure gets stronger and converts gas to a liquid flow
CHORUS
The greatest strongest planet, let me tell you why
The most massive of all the planets in this system you’ll find,
More than twice the mass of all the other planets combined
I also have the most powerful magnetic field
More than 14 time stronger than Earth’s magnetic field
Due to my fast rotation, thick atmosphere and molten material
I have really strong gravity, and could you stand on me
If you weighed 100 pounds on Earth, on me you’d weigh 250
And the brightest auroras that you’ve ever seen
Thanks to my magnetic field, Io’s volcanoes and my fast spinning
Now back to the Beginning
CHORUS
A colossal, awesome planet, Now you know why!
