Lyrics:
I am Planet Uranus the 7th planet from our Sun
Of all the planets in our solar system, I’m the oddest one
I’m the only planet to orbit the sun while laying down on my side
Not named after a Roman god, but after the Greek God of the Sky
I’m the only planet named from Greek Mythology
The rest, except Earth, are Roman you see
And, Here is another fact that is fun
There’s an element named after me, Uranium
I rotate on my side, tilted 98 degrees
What can I say, I’m a little lazy
I also rotate backwards in retrograde
Only Venus and I rotate that way
It’s like I’m rolling ‘round the Sun with my sideways poles
Chilled and relaxed, that’s how I roll!
My axis is always pointing the same way
At times I roll with my orbit, other times away
It’s not quite clear why I rotate this way
Maybe I collided with another object one day
Long ago, a crash could have knocked me on my side
And helped create some moons along for the ride
CHORUS
I take 84 years to orbit ‘round the Sun
But only 17 hours for one rotation
My days are short but my years are long
It takes 21 years for each season
My sideways tilt makes my seasons extreme
With intense weather and light, here’s what I mean
My south pole will face the sun for 42 years of light
Then 42 years of darkness, that’s one long night
At least 27 moons orbit me
Named after characters that are literary
Some are named from plays that Shakespeare wrote
Others from poems by Alexander Pope
And I have another feature that is cool
I have 13 known rings around me too
Zeta, 6, 5, 4, Alpha, Beta, Eta, Gamma,
Delta, Lambda, Epsilon, Nu and Mu
CHORUS
Neptune and I are known as Ice giants
Extremely Cold Gas Giant Planets
We’re made up of gases like Saturn and Jupiter
But we’re smaller, colder and our gases are heavier
Not just cool, The coldest planet in our system
My temperatures can be even colder than Neptune
I don’t get much heat at all from the sun
And heat from my core? I have almost none
And since my seasons are so long
The parts of me that face away from the sun
Get down to extremely low temperatures
-224 degrees Celsius, that’s my record
I’m the shade of blue you see
Because of methane gas on me
But breathing on me, you wouldn’t like
My clouds smell like rotten eggs from hydrogen-sulfide
CHORUS
One of my coolest features besides temperature
Is my very interesting weather
Not only is it very windy on me
But it could rain diamonds down you see
Scientists believe that my intense pressure deep down
Squeezes elements together into different compounds
Pressure squeezes the carbon in my atmosphere
To create precious diamond rain on this sphere
So, if you like sparkly gems, come visit me soon!
I’ve only been visited by Voyager 2
But I have a lot more secrets to reveal
To increase my already awesome appeal
I am Planet Uranus the 7th planet from our Sun
Of all the planets in our solar system, I’m the oddest one
