Lyrics:
I’m Neptune the 8th planet from the sun
The farthest planet in our solar system
My name Neptune, it is Roman
Named after the God of the Oceans
I’m hard to find and was not discovered by sight
I’m the first planet discovered using math, that’s right
Scientists used mathematical calculations they wrote (Le Verrier and Galle)
But You can’t see me without a telescope
I’m a bit of a mystery
Only one of your spacecrafts visited me
Voyager 2 did a fly by
And lit up the darkness of night
I’m Neptune the 8th planet from the sun
The farthest planet in our solar system
Named after the God of the Oceans
It’s cold and dark where I come from
I’m an Ice Giant Planet just like Uranus
Gases over an icy core, It’s very cold on both of us
But I have an unknown internal heat source on me
That keeps me warmer than Uranus can be
I take 165 Earth years to orbit the sun
That’s a long time to wait for one birthday celebration
I only take 16 hours for one rotation or Neptunian Solar day
So it takes over 89,000 of my days until one Neptunian year is made
(89666)
It’s very cold and dark out here
It takes four hours for Sun’s light to reach this sphere
The sun is 30 times farther from me than Earth
So, I get a lot less sun light and warmth
I’m Neptune the 8th planet from the sun
The farthest planet in our solar system
Named after the God of the Oceans
I may be far away but I’m not the only one
Orbiting me, I have at least 14 moons
They are named after mythological water deities too
My moon Triton orbits me backwards or in retrograde
He could be a dwarf planet that my gravity captured and then he stayed
Like Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus, I have 6 very faint rings
And several ring arcs which are very mysterious things
Ring arcs are regions where particles in my rings cluster together
My arcs caught scientist’s eyes and led to my rings being discovered
Sometimes Pluto and I cross orbits
So, I’m farther from the Sun than Pluto gets
That is because Pluto’s orbit is eccentric
And sometimes cuts across my orbit
I’m Neptune the 8th planet from the sun
The farthest planet in our solar system
Named after the God of the Oceans
Of all the planets I’m the mysterious one
The methane in my atmosphere Is what makes me blue
Which is why I’m named after the God of the Sea, Neptune
I look like an ocean with very calm seas
But the weather on me isn’t quite just a breeze
Like Uranus, I can have diamond rain too
Scientists believe this is something we both do
Deep down within there is a lot of pressure
And diamonds can form when carbon atoms get squished together
Not only do I have storms that rain down gems
I have the fastest winds in the Solar System
My winds reach over 1,300 miles per hour
These speeds easily break the sound barrier
I’m Neptune the 8th planet from the sun
The farthest planet in our solar system
Named after the God of the Oceans
Now I’ll say goodbye, my song is done
