The premiere of our Banjo-Tooie Let's Play, being played by Stephen on the Xbox Live Arcade re-release for sexy 1080p goodness.

Starting a brand new game, we actually decide to skip the introduction cutscene because it really is quite long, and if you want to see it, I'm sure it's somewhere else on YouTube. We feel like it would probably be a waste of your time to include a long cutscene if we're just going to talk over it anyway. Here's the rundown though:

Following the events at the end of Banjo-Kazooie, which had left Gruntilda trapped under a large boulder, Banjo, Kazooie, Mumbo, and Bottles are playing cards during a dark and stormy night several years later. Gruntilda's two witch sisters arrive in Spiral Mountain with a large drilling vehicle, leaving a gaping hole in the side. Using a spell, they remove the boulder and finally set Gruntilda free.

Gruntilda, now a skeleton after many years of being trapped under a rock, uses a powerful spell, shooting a large beam of energy at Banjo's house, wherein Bottles still sits, having not yet escaped. The three witch sisters take the drilling vehicle and head out of Spiral Mountain, leaving Klungo behind. Unfortunately, Bottles is killed by the spell and his ghost leaves his charred corpse at the end of the cutscene.

We explore Spiral Mountain and the demolished entrance to Gruntilda's Lair for a bit before entering the hole left by the drilling vehicle. Inside, Klungo is waiting for revenge on the bear and bird. Following a pretty easy fight, we continue on to Jinjo Village, where it is apparent that some major damage has been done to the inhabitants' houses and surrounding landscape.

We meet the king of Jinjo Village, King Jingaling, where he tells us that all of the Jinjos that had once been living in the town have been scattered throughout the land and need to be returned in time for a large kickball tournament. After leaving the throne room, we skip another long cutscene:

The three witch sisters are at the top of a mountain in control of a large, ominous death ray. It has the ability to pinpoint a location and shoot down a huge beam of energy which begins to suck the life force of those at the target.

They choose King Jingaling as their first target, sucking up his life force and leaving the throne room is a gray, withered state while the king moved about in a zombified state. With enough life energy sucked up and stored in the death ray, they will be able to return Gruntilda to her original, healthy state.

In the episode, we talk about the game in general, why we're playing it on the Xbox instead of the N64, and also about some famous people we have met in person. On that short list includes the actor who played Jeff from "Dude Where's My Car?" as well as Bill Nye the science guy.

We leave the episode near the start of the first level, the Mayahem Temple.
