One thing to clarify is that in Zero 4 compared to previous games having an A or S rank (In Zero 3) when defeating a boss gives you their EX skill. That's not the case here, simply having the weather set to be advantageous to the boss will get you their EX skill, which in turn makes the ranking system entirely pointless except for unlocking a mini-game when clearing the game with a constant S rank.
