Okay, read the manual a little bit.

First, get a CR1220 battery for the RTC backup. Then open the case (just three screws to remove) and install.

Inside you can see a bunch of headers - the two near the internal SD card slot are for future expansion (Datasette interface?). Not sure about the others - there's also four DIP switches (refer Ch. 6 of the manual).

It has two SD card slots - a full size internally that comes with a pre-formatted 16GB SD card, and an external MicroSD at the rear.

It can only use one slot at a time - if a card is plugged into the external slot, it takes priority ... and so the MEGA65 won't boot if the card is unformatted.

To format it, plug it in and then boot to utilities by holding ALT and powering on. Formatting the card uses FAT32 and copies the necessary boot files onto the card.
