The script for this video is derived from an article by Edward Guimont.

Sharks have always been an intriguing animal to humans. Many are friendly and just swim around looking for fish to munch. Some are absolute behemoths with mouthfuls of cutting blades ready to cut up anything that moves. Others are pretty much entirely harmless, just looking for big schools of krill to filter. Sharks are older than trees, so they have a huge history of thousands of divergences from what we know of them today. One of the most impressive of the sharks, not for its weird appendages, as far as we know, but for its size was the mighty megalodon. Its mighty status has earned it not only a place in science or in the science educator’s toolbox, but also in mythology, pop culture, and pseudoscience. Let’s delve into the history of how and why the beast is at the top of the heap that it is.
