Playthrough of Megaman X6 for the PS1 on the Xtreme difficulty setting while also completing the game 100% by collection all of X's armor parts, hearts and Sub Tanks while rescuing every single reploid in the game with none of then being infected by the Nightmares. In the Xtreme difficulty setting just like with X5, stages have more enemies and they never drop Health or Energy Tanks but enemies and bosses also have more attack patterns on Xtreme making it very challenging. X6 is by far one of the hardest Megaman X games around so much that people trash on it but just like everything, if you know what you are doing the game is much easier.
One thing to keep in mind in X6 is that you will find out that while previous games X and Zero were both viable choices to finish the game with Zero having a slightly edge over X for his speedrunning potential, in X6 however the difference is even more apparent to the point that X is really underpowered in this game especially on Xtreme. With that in mind my first goal is to unlock Zero as fast as possible so i can use him as Black Zero. Just like X5 Black Zero has Shock Buffer, Energy saver, Shot Eraser but his 4th upgrade this time is Z-Saber Plus which increases his regular saber damage by 1 and makes it Blue. Shock Buffer in X6 completely negates any knockback if Zero has it.
Your goal once you get Zero is to defeat Shield Sheldon as fast as possible to get his ability to enabled the Guard Shell glitch: if used with Zero, every regular attack that Zero does while Guard Shell is active is that it massively increases the number of hits the Saber gets during the combos to ridiculous amounts and that can completely destroy bosses and enemies alike. Enemies in X6 have ALOT of health so this glitch gets around that pretty nicely. The Nightmare mechanic which is a more advanced one compared to what they used in X1 can make certain stages pretty annoying to navigate through then usual often requiring multiple tries.
The hostages in this game is how you gain parts and such and if a Nightmare infects one of then and said Reploid was holding a item, that item is essentially forever lost in the playthrough. For the purposes of speed and getting 100% i will be using Save States to prevent this for happening as it saves time for me instead of having to manually reload a memory card save everytime is lose a Reploid as sometimes Nightmares might spawn literally on top of then and you have less then 2 seconds to destroy then.
Rankings are back in X6 but they are now a level up system of sorts that unlocks how many parts you can equip at once. The best way to farm then is to farm Dynamo in Infinite Mijinion stage as its the quickest and shortest stage to complete. I farm off screen at one point in the video all the way to 9999 ranking.
On one point i also quickly showcase X's armors on X6 as i do not use him after unlocking Zero at all.
People argue this game suffers from bad game design as a way to justify the difficulty but the only annoying thing in X6 is how you can lose parts when Reploids get infected but realistically you will never lose then as a clever player will just save scum his way to 100%. X being underpowered in X6 can also be argued that it was a rule from back then that something that you unlocked would 90% of the time be better compared to what you have initially and most games back then were like that.
