Mental Health And Depression In India | Does India Really Care About Mental Health?
8.5 crore Indians suffer from mental health problems. We have the highest number of teenage suicides globally and half of India's corporate employees suffer from depression or anxiety. Does India really care about mental health?
According to WHO, India is the most depressed country in the world followed by China and the United States. Why? Is it because of the society that doesn't allow us to speak openly about depression, anxiety and mental health of an individual? Mental illness, anxiety and depression is just like any other disease that need treatment. Around 75-92% of the people (students, working class, women) suffering from mental health issues and depression in India don't get a proper treatment. Who is to blame? The society (us)?
Half of all mental health conditions start by the age of 14 years and most cases are undetected and untreated, please look around you and talk to the people you think might be going through something like depression!
