In a bold move that blends Formula 1 inspiration with ultra-exclusive automotive design, Mercedes-AMG has officially unveiled the production-ready PureSpeed at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. This highly anticipated model is part of the automaker’s Mythos series, an ultra-limited line of vehicles catering to the most dedicated enthusiasts. Only 250 units of the PureSpeed will ever be produced, making it a true collector’s item.

The PureSpeed remains faithful to the concept version revealed ahead of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix. Its design borrows heavily from the Mercedes-AMG SL-class, but with significant tweaks that make it uniquely its own. The most striking difference? There is no windshield. Instead, Mercedes-AMG has integrated a tubular steel “halo” between the seats, reminiscent of the protective structures used in Formula 1 cars since 2018. This bold feature not only enhances safety but also gives the car an aggressive, futuristic aesthetic. LED accent lighting along the underside of the halo and small deflectors on the hood reduce turbulence for occupants, ensuring an unforgettable open-top driving experience.

The front fascia departs from the traditional Mercedes grille, featuring a smooth nose with large, low-mounted air vents for optimized aerodynamics. Carbon fiber elements dominate the exterior, including winglets on the front splitter, side skirts, and rear bumper. A large rear diffuser and active aerodynamics—both under the body and on the rear wing—further emphasize the car’s track-focused nature. The PureSpeed rides on 21-inch forged aluminum wheels, which incorporate carbon fiber covers for maximum performance. These covers are closed at the rear to reduce drag but remain open at the front to improve cooling for the brakes. The tires are staggered, measuring 275/35R21 in the front and 305/30R21 in the rear.

Under the hood, the PureSpeed boasts the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine found in the AMG SL63. This powerhouse delivers 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, sent to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. The result? A blistering acceleration from zero to 62 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 196 miles per hour. Considering the absence of a windshield, hitting such speeds is as thrilling as it is daring.

Mercedes-AMG has equipped the PureSpeed with a host of performance-enhancing features, including semi-active hydraulic roll stabilization and carbon ceramic brakes.

Inside the cabin, the PureSpeed retains much of the SL-class layout but introduces unique touches to distinguish itself. The interior is dressed in a striking two-tone black and white color scheme, with bespoke leather upholstery and stitching inspired by the airflow around the car. Heated AMG Performance seats add both comfort and luxury, while leather-wrapped door sills and carbon fiber accents highlight the vehicle’s premium nature. A custom analog clock from IWC Schaffhausen sits atop the dashboard, blending classic elegance with modern performance. Additionally, a 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system ensures a top-tier audio experience, whether you are enjoying your favorite playlist or simply appreciating the roar of the V8 engine.

For those seeking even more exclusivity, Mercedes-AMG offers an optional “motorsports styling package.” This package includes a unique paint job where Le Mans red transitions into graphite grey, adorned with a repeating AMG logo pattern. The red is a nod to the brand’s 1924 Targa Florio-winning race car, and the number 10 that graced that legendary vehicle is prominently displayed on the PureSpeed.

In a thoughtful touch, Mercedes has also designed accessories to enhance the ownership experience. The car comes with a rain cover that stretches over the halo and attaches to the wheel arches, protecting the interior when parked. Additionally, buyers will receive specially designed aerodynamic helmets that match the car’s paint scheme. These helmets are equipped with an intercom system for communication between the driver and passenger.

Pricing for the PureSpeed has not been officially announced, but it is expected to exceed $300,000. Considering that the AMG SL63 starts at $188,300 and the hybrid SL63 S E Performance is expected to push past $200,000, the PureSpeed’s exclusivity and advanced features justify its anticipated premium price tag. Interestingly, Mercedes-AMG has not declared the PureSpeed sold out, suggesting that some of the 250 units may still be available for those eager to own a piece of automotive history.
