Mesozoic: Age of the Dinosaurs (READ DESCRIPTION)
Hey guys, sorry I’ve been gone for so long, I just needed a bit of a break, plus, I’m kinda struggling with ideas of how I’m gonna keep the channel running consistently in its current form. Got any ideas you’d like to suggest?
Anyway, this is basically my pitch for a dinosaur documentary in the veins of the Walking with series or Dinosaur Planet, though I also recently thought of having a tie-in park builder game called “Mesozoic World” (though the Quetzalcoatlus would be featured at the Javelina Formation and not the Hell Creek Formation).
The goal of Mesozoic is to be the most up to date and accurate depiction of the dinosaur world yet seen on screen (which means many of the theropods and all of the basal ornithopods have feathers, supinated hands, no shrink-wrapping, no extra monstrous Jurassic Park touches, etc.).
Fun fact: I originally imagined Mesozoic as a film trilogy consisting of Mesozoic: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (the beginning of the dinosaurs in the Triassic), Mesozoic: Dynasty of the Dinosaurs (the golden age of Jurassic giants) and Mesozoic: Death of the Dinosaurs (the Cretaceous extinction event), but decided to make it a show instead, since that would allow for more opportunities for storytelling and dinosaur representation.
I’ve thought about having someone like Jeremy Irons as the narrator, as I feel like his voice would be fitting for the tone the show goes for, plus it wouldn’t be TOO distracting (y’know, like Christian Slater in Dinosaur Planet).
Also, the episodes ALWAYS take place in the Mesozoic era, so don’t expect any palaeontology cutaways. However, much like Walking with Monsters and When Dinosaurs Roamed America, there are occasional breaks from the action to showcase the unique anatomical attributes of some of the creatures (like Allosaurus’ weaker bite and jaw-slamming killing method, how Baryonyx’s snout makes it perfectly adapted for hunting fish, the function of Chasmosaurus’ frill, T. rex’s senses of sight, smell and hearing, etc.).
Who knows? Maybe if the show succeeded, I’d do follow-ups about the Palaeozoic and Cenozoic.
