Meta Smartwatch Returns: New Version in the Works. Is it the best smartwatch
The company may be giving its efforts to create a smartwatch new life, so the project may not be entirely dead.
The renowned Pixel leaker Kuba Wojciechowski has released new pictures of the purported smartwatch that he purportedly received from an unnamed source. According to the pictures, development on this new smartwatch appears to be well under way because the device is shown working with the watch face on. The device, which Wojciechowski claims runs Android and not Wear OS, is a "new iteration" of the watch that was leaked in 2021, according to Wojciechowski. Images show that, aside from the absence of the black frame, the two devices are very similar. A notch for the camera is even present at the bottom.
Evidently, Meta still desires that wearables have a purpose in the Metaverse. According to Wojciechowski, the business reportedly intends to use the smartwatch to facilitate the switch to other devices.
When the first smartwatch emerged, it was rumored that Meta wanted to develop a device with LTE connectivity that would connect to the business's messaging apps and include some health-focused features. A follow-up watch was rumored to debut in 2023 and a watch like this was slated to debut in 2022. The first watch, however, reportedly got the ax in the middle of 2022, and late last year, smartwatch development reportedly came to an end.
Interestingly, it appears that all is not lost, and Meta may be changing its mind while still using its old design. The sensor array has undergone some minor cosmetic changes, but overall, Wojciechowski notes, it still shares many physical characteristics with the original.
