Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (2008)

This is the first game that was originally released for Sony Playstation 3. It's part of the "Metal Gear-athon" in which we're playing all the games of the Metal Gear Legacy Collection + MGS V.

As usual Hideo Kojima was again in the lead of the development of Metal Gear Solid 4. The game plays in the timeline after MGS2 and therefore follows story-wise all of the previous games.

As the game was released for PS3, it's much more technically advanced compared to the previous games. However it does suffer now and then from a low frame rate. The controls are much more responsive, the gameplay is more intuitive and the environments and enemy placements feel more natural. The game is split in several acts and each act consists of a different landscape, gameplay, enemies. This creates a lot of variance that makes the game exciting from start to finish.
Also the number and length of cutscenes has been massively increased. Most of them are extremely well done, but they can also be considered overly long. Once between the end of an act and the beginning of the next one, there is more than 70 minutes of cutscenes which puts this game into first place of the longest cutscene in video games. In order to provide the full story experience for the viewers, the cutscenes have not been skipped.
