0Metal Max Returns is a post-apocalyptic, turn-based role-playing game (with vehicle combat elements) developed by Crea-Tech and published by Data East. It is a remake of the original NES Metal Max, featuring improved graphics and sound, revised areas, references to Metal Max 2, and decreased difficulty. It also contains many elements that were later found in Metal Saga on the PS2.
In early 2003 it was announced that Metal Max Returns would receive an enhanced rereleases for the Gameboy Advance called Metal Max Returns Kai alongside and enhanced rereleases of Metal max 2 called Metal Max 2 Kai, but due to concerns over rights issues caused by Data East's bankruptcy Metal Max Returns Kai never released.
