4The Metroid series has been one of Nintendo's mainstay video game series for almost as long as Zelda has, but it hasn't always gotten as much love as some of their other more popular series. The Metroid series lives on today in no small part thanks to the dedicated community it's had over the decades, who have expressed their love for it in various ways such as fan communities, speedrunning, cosplay, fan art, modding, and more. As we sit on the recent release of a long awaited sequel and remaster, with another sequel in the works, we take a look back at the history of the series and the fan works and communities that formed throughout it, how they shaped the state of the series, and what we can expect as a new age of Metroid continues!
