Metroid Dread is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by MercurySteam and Nintendo EPD for the Nintendo Switch. Set after Metroid Fusion, and incorporating the improved melee action combat of Metroid: Samus Returns Remake, players control bounty hunter Samus Aran as she faces a new robotic enemy on the planet ZDR.

Metroid Dread is the 5th title of the mainline games, and the first 2-D Metroid game in almost 19 years. The Producer, Yoshio Sakamoto, has promised that Dread will return to the more play-at-your-own-pace Metroid gameplay style and large interconnected open-world exploration of Super Metroid, while also featuring the intense combat of Metroid: Samus Returns Remake and Metroid Other M.
