Metroid is one of Nintendo's most popular game franchises, right up there with Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda! The game stars Samus Aran, one of gaming's most famous female characters. When this game was released in 1987, it was one of the ONLY Nintendo games where you could play as a woman!
Many later games would take inspiration from Metroid's non-linear style. If you love games like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, The Messenger, or Hollow Knight, then you have Metroid to thank for pioneering that style of game play!
