Metroid Zero Mission 10% Hard Mode Run Segment 28 - Vs. Mecha Ridley and Ending
Remember to add "&fmt=18" (without quotes) to the end of the video link to watch it in high quality!
Whether you call him Mecha Ridley, Robot Ridley, or Iron Ted (no Meta Ridley, that's a different form), he is very hard to beat at first. I couldn't even beat him in my second playthrough of this run, then my file got deleted, and did this run again (which are the recorded ones). And I was able to beat him and escape without any problems as soon as I got here (well, I failed three times, but that's it). But this boss has to be the hardest boss (on low percent) I've ever faced (due to being so random).
His weak spot is the glowing glass covering his center, which takes 10 Missiles to destroy. Once it's destroyed, the second phase starts, and you need to use 18 more Missiles to finally defeat him.
I make it so I hit his glass seven times, and then the next time I get ammo, I'm sure to get a shot on his second phase (as I got two missile refills). In this phase, he trades his Fireball attack for the much more dreaded eye laser, which he fires in random directions. So you better hope luck is on your side.
There's a trick here to dodge that (most of the time), when if you Space Jump right by the wall, close to the top line (but NEVER go above it) when he begins to fire, and then you go back to your crouched position by the door, he shouldn't (but rarely, he will) aim the laser at you, making you safe. Then just keep on shooting the missiles at him when you get the chance. Once he starts turning blue and then red, the amount of time his weak spot is open is shortened, so shoot your Missiles quickly.
Once you defeat the evil robot, you will only have three minutes to escape. That is more than enough time, except for the fact that one hit from the Space Pirates will force you to fight Mecha Ridley all over again. So you should memorize their locations in each room, being able to go through them.
I then use the easy way of defeating the two black-armored Space Pirates at the end, and then get out of the Mothership (I love seeing the Space Pirate from the ship get owned by another Space Pirate, lol), and get the cool looking picture at the end. I don't think the time is bad, as it's my best for this run, but it can definitely be improved.
So now, I'm done with this run (and Mecha Ridley doesn't seem as bad thanks to the laser eye trick), and now doing a 15% run on Normal mode (which is much easier then this, lol). As for my next project, I dunno, we'll just have to wait and see.
