Metroid: Zero Mission - Ch. 1 - Brinstar
Welcome! This is our second playthrough of a game in the 'Metroid' franchise. Previously, we played through 'Super Metroid' for the SNES. Today, we start our playthrough of 'Metroid:Zero Mission', released on February 9th in 2004 for the 'Game Boy Advance'.
'Zero Mission' is a remake of the original 'Metroid' for NES released in 1986. It re-tells the story of Samus' first mission on Planet Zebes, after she is hired by Space Pirates to destroy the 'Metroids' and the mechanical organism 'Mother Brain'.
Let's begin...
CHAPTER 1 - BRINSTAR
Ok, in this first area, there are only a few things for us to collect:
-Morph Ball
-Long Beam
-Missiles
-Charge Beam
-Bomb
-Energy
-Morph Ball
Returning players who have completed Metroid on the NES will know exactly what to do. Start by going left, blasting the Zoomers as you go. Jump over the rock formation and continue until you see a red orb on a pedestal.
Your first item is easily accessible. Shoot the glowing orb and it'll reveal the Morph Ball inside. Jump up to claim it.
-Long Beam
After getting hte Morph Ball, continue to the right until you reach the end. This should be a Save Room. Before this was a shaft that stretches upward. Keep climbing until you see a Blue Hatch on the left, go through it.
Go through it, roll under the narrow passage, and avoid the Skrees as you make your way to the room on the left. Inside is a lone Chozo Statue, holding some kind of weird looking blob-thing. Shoot the orb to reveal the Long Beam, and take your prize.
-Missile Tank #1
Now that you have the Long Beam, you can enter a Blue Hatch on the right side of the vertical shaft room. You need to first crouch and shoot the blocks, then turn into a Morph Ball and roll through. As you pass through the following room, you'll see your first Red Hatch on the opposite end.
You can't enter here yet, so drop down to the bottom of this room and go through the Blue Hatch on the right. The room will be shaking. Towards the end of the room, you'll find you'll find Missile Tank #1.
-Charge Beam
You can keep going right, but you'll eventually hit a point where you can't continue yet. When you go back the way you came, a mini-boss will pop up to face you!
MINI-BOSS BATTLE - King Worm
In order to beat this worm, you just have to fire three missiles at its eye. If you fail to do this quickly, it will run away. Don't worry though, as you'll simply fight it again in another area of Brinstar. If you manage to beat it here though, you'll get the Charge Beam, which allows you to charge up your regular beam weapon.
-Missile Tank #2
Continue back to the previous room and climb up to where you saw your first Red Hatch earlier. Use your missile to open it. In the next couple rooms, you'll see these annoying fly enemies that keep respawning. In the third room, you can jump up to a platform and destroy their nest.
Notice behind you, there is a block right next to the wall. Jump up to it and you'll find a hidden path that leads to Missile Tank #2.
-Missile Tank #3
Continue right to the next room where a wall of rocks will block your way. You can shoot them to clear a path. Shoot the first block on the bottom to reveal Missile Tank #3.
-Energy Tank #1
Continue right. If you did not beat King Worm earlier, it should pop up around here. Keep going and eventually you'll find Energy Tank #1 along the way.
-Bombs
Keep going right until you reach a vertical shaft. Drop to the bottom and go left to reach a Map Room. Return to the shaft and climb. Go through the secon Blue Hatch on the left. In this room, there's a Save Room on the opposite side. Climb up and enter the Blue Hatch. Continue left, turning into the Morph Ball to roll through the narrow passage.
Enter the Red Hatch to find the Bombs.
-Missile Tank #4
Roll under the Chozo Statue and set off a couple of Bombs in order to roll into a secret room. Explode the blocks and set some Bombs to launch yourself from platform to platform until you reach Missile Tank #4.
That should be it, collection-wise. What you need to do exploration-wise is return to the vertical shaft and climb to the top. Eventually, you'll find a Chozo Statue that will direct you to the next area, Norfair.
To get there, return to the room where we found the first Missile Tank (where we first fought King Worm). With the Morph Ball Bombs, you can now continue right. This leads eventually to an elevator that takes you to Norfair.
As we descend, it becomes obvious that we are being watched...
