Honestly, Chico's briefing files made me feel more sorry than him than anything in the main story. It's been said before that the best way for a character to have an impact in the viewer is to have them connected socially first, and because Chico was so entertaining and likable in the first series of Conversations, the more sorrowful moments later in this actually hit much harder than I expected.
When I listen to this, I can't help but feel that a game centered around Amanda and Chico alone with Big Boss helping out would have been a much better storyline, rather than the not-ghost of the Boss coming back to haunt Big Boss. Again, not everything has to come back to Zero and the Boss, and since this game had such little impact on the main games, it's better if it DOESN'T!
Coldman and Zordinov would have been more interesting characters without their connections to Paz, Huey Emmerich, or Strangelove, and it would have been more fitting to have a storyline centralized around a country being torn apart by forces that ultimately have little to do with them, rather than that just being a side plot.
