Saw it over a week ago and definitely enjoyed it. There is the usual knee-jerk and a whiff of propaganda. But the message is clear and honest: America's capitalist economy has gone to excesses.

Moore pursues a strongly anti-capitalist line whereas I merely support reform, albeit heavy-duty reform. But as a former socialist, I understand where such attitudes come from. The classic Marxist critique of class conflict and worker oppression is very real indeed. It is interesting to note, however, that even Adam Smith was a harsh critic of concentrated and unchecked private economic power.

The answer? Democracy and collective action is the best weapon against the excesses of the monied interests. And some of that action includes redressing class-based grievances. Capitalism can work well for the many, but if it is to be so, there have to be some rules and a social contract.
