Where have I been? Well.. I'm old.. I don't remember... here and there I guess.. But anyways.. in the mean time I got Hooked on MiniPC's .. like candy! Yeah Yeah, they are not for everyone.. but they do everything and have their uses.. including playing Triple A game titles ..

As the title says: Microsoft Flight Simulator GEM 12 MiniPC 8845HS and DEG 1 Oculink Dock eGPU 4060ti.. I run the MiniPC through New York for the hardest hit on FPS, while on ULTRA settings.. let's see ...

Let me explain what I am using..
MiniPC - Aoostar GEM 12.. Mine has the Ryzen 8845HS CPU with built on 780m GPU.. that alone, plays games pretty good on low-Medium settings, about Identical as a 7840HS. The GEM 12 also has Win11 Pro 32gb 5600 ram 1TB Nvme for system etc.. Two Nvme slots are included and all the HDMI/DP USB etc I need. I use a 2TB in the extra Nvme and some USB 4TB portables attached for extra games etc.. and a dedicated Oculink is included.. no taking up an Nvme slot. Umm..

Oculink Port - That's 64GB/s Transfer rate for an External GPU.. and I just happened to have a few extra GPU's and power Supplies laying around.. so..

I made a few Docks up to have some fun.. this one comes ready for a power supply and GPU from MinisForum.. the rest is grins.

MinisForum DEG1 - A very nice basic Oculink Dock with a nice metal covering of the PCB device. They put a skid plate pad for the Power Supply to sit on. They give you thumb screws for the holes of a SFX or ATX supply to mount to the base firmly. Then a bar arm to thumb screw the GPU to the Power Supply. It all sits firm!

Then you plug in your 24 pin from Power Supply to the DEG1.. then Seat your GPU and plug it in from Power supply, 8pin for me. All set. Now you might see some PCB boards for OCulink.. they work.. some are just 32gb/s transfer (make sure info says 64GB/s) so something to think about when buying one.. and every time, you have to shut everything off.. start your GPU .. then Start your MiniPC..

The DEG 1 has a bit better setup for me.. obviously I start with everything shutoff, and plug in the OCulink cable to both the MiniPC and DEG 1 Dock.. Then I press the Button on the Dock.. Then start the PC... and when I Shut off the MiniPC.. the DEG 1 will shut the GPU off for me.. the next time I start the MiniPC, the DEG 1 will start with it. it really makes a difference.. works great if you plan to keep them connected for a weekend etc.. do at own risk. The DEG 1 is 99.00usd on Minisforum's website and "comes with" the OCulink Cable.. Shipped from Hong Kong took 2 weeks from purchase to DHL delivered to my door, and only TAX added.. so 105.00 for me.

4060ti - Well.. I was using a GTX 1070 I had laying around and it did pretty good on a PCB Oculink board for Triple A titles on high and staying over 60FPS.. But a Friend bought a RTX 4060ti with 16GB VRAM and complained about it from the start.. Basically because you only need 8gb presently for about everything but editing maybe.. Well, he wanted a 4080... and I kind of made a deal, so he got a break on his new 4080 and I got his old no good for nothin 4060ti.. works for me.. I can see close to 12GB loaded into Vram.. :-)

Power Supply - Don't we all have those extra ones laying around? anyways.. if you don't.. a 500 watt ATX wired can be as cheap as 30 bucks new.. or you can spend the 130+ usd for a SFX 750-850 Modular PS and make it look more "neat".. anyways..

That's the setup.. Note, Oculink is only 4 lanes instead of 8.. but it seems to be only in the 10% or so less performance of a GPU plugged into a tower.. it's all about the size.. now let's see what the FPS says in Microsoft Flight Simulator and New York City and if it bottle necks with frame gen on.. why use frame gen? Because it works.. a good setup for 1080p gaming..

BTW, for the naysayers that say it's a waste of money on eGPU setup.. the idea is to use it among a few MiniPC's and laptops, with the option to swap GPU at will.. These Mini's are great for travel with a wall plug available and a nice 16 inch portable monitor and wireless mouse and keyboard.. all fitting nicely in a backpack with lunch.. when I am home though.. to the eDock! but I digress.. I think I will pause on MiniPC buying till the new 890m takes the place of the 780m iGPU.. another few Gen's and Mini's will be gaming at 4k 120 just like an xbox.. oh umm... anyways...

Recorded on same MiniPC during flight with Geforce overlay's record (alt-f9) reflects a few fps drop...
