Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an action-adventure game set in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, specifically between the events of The Hobbit and *The Lord of the Rings*. The game follows Talion, a ranger of Gondor, whose life is upended when he and his family are murdered by the forces of Sauron.
