INTRODUCTION:
Mighty Final Fight was released in 1993 for the NES and is a spinoff of Capcom's 1989 arcade game Final Fight, and this game follows the same premise as the original Final Fight. The Mad Gear Gang, the dominant street gang of Metro City, have kidnapped Mayor Haggar's daughter, Jessica. After Haggar is informed of her kidnapping, he sets out to rescue her along with his two friends: Cody, Jessica's boyfriend; and Guy, Cody's training partner. The story is presented in a more comical fashion compared to the original game due to its satirical nature. For example, Belger's motive for kidnapping Jessica in this version is to force her to marry him, because he had fallen in love with her.

REVIEW:
When the game starts you can choose between Cody which is a street fighter that fights using a martial art mix combining Karate and Boxing, Guy that masters the Ninjutsu, and Haggar, a former professional wrestler. Those three main characters retain almost all of their abilities from the original arcade game, but with some aesthetic differences.

The game has a Rage-Power system where the player gains level up by defeating enemies. Your Rage level is shown by the color of the bar at the bottom of the screen. Blue is normal but when increased to magenta, red and yellow different kind of special moves becomes available. Increased to maximum the Rage bar is white and then you can use it to refill half of your energy. It is quite simple to do the special moves, and how to do them, and how to do the other moves is shown in the Tutorial you can chose at the menu.

The game consists of five stages. Weapons can be picked up, and this is always the same, depending on which character you are: Cody will get a knife, Guy will get a set of shurikens, and Haggar will get an oversized mallet. You can also find energy-restoring food items if you hit a rolling barrel or a running mouse.

The background graphics in the Spectrum version is stunning, it is very detailed and highly colorful, it easily beats the NES version, and also the roads and floors where you walk is much more crammed with details in the Spectrum version. The sprites is made like in many old Spectrum games with see-through sprites that takes the color of the background. This is not an advantage, so the full color sprites in the NES version is better.

The music and sound fx is well ported, the NES sound might be more advanced but can be annoying to listen to in the length, and this is not a problem for the Spectrum version. The AY plays the soundtrack and fx is made by the beeper, so soundtrack can play uninterrupted.

The controls of the Spectrum characters works flawless and the speed and movement is as good as the NES version. The Level-up / Rage system and controls is slightly different, but it works well on both versions, and off course the controls had to be changed for the Spectrum / Joystick version, because there is only one fire button, where the NES controller had more buttons.

The NES version has some issues / a flaw where even the most simple villain can drain you for energy in no time if you are in bad luck and standing in the wrong place at the wrong time. This does not happen in the Spectrum version.

There can be no more text here, so read the rest of the review in "REVIEW CONTINUED" under the comments.
