Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition (All Incidents) Part 2
Part 2. I really enjoyed this game. There is a lot of clever level design and some really tough challenges, which I appreciated. I will say that I like the platforming challenges and puzzles more than the other kinds of levels, but I did like the variety. There are 5 kinds of levels: those that are mainly platforming, bomb guiding levels, kill enemies to save the naughty criminals, launch blocks and if you're lucky a level that combines a bunch of these. The first 21 levels seem fairly balanced, when you beat the game you then get access to the 21 levels designed for this remake. These levels are harder remixed versions of the first 21 levels. Most are well designed though some are very slow and tedious, I'm looking at you bomb levels. The bomb levels devolve into boring Mario Maker-esque excavation levels, they are slow going and really boring. The worst part is they do offer challenge but if you fail somewhere it takes a long time to get back to where you failed. It feels like the game doesn't value the players time. I could also be very bad. My other large complaint is that the camera is way to far zoomed in and it makes it difficult to sometimes understand what needs to be done and see where you need to go. They do offer a camera adjust button but it's not a good compromise. If the camera was slightly pulled out it would solve a lot of issues I had with being able to see what to do next. Sometimes the puzzles don't even fully fit on screen and that is a big problem. I can see the reasoning in the original versions considering they were on the 3DS, but this remake could have easily fixed this problem. All that aside, it genuinely is fun and there are lots of well made levels and a ton of challenges to overcome. The controls are adequate. If I had to nitpick I would say that the pause when switching seems unnecessary and in a couple of levels can get you into trouble. The music is very solid as well and really can get the blood pumping in excitement. The updated graphics are also nice and appealing and remind me a lot of the newer Shantae games. Also, how can you not enjoy capturing the naughty criminals? Enjoy my blind playthrough.
