Milon's Secret Castle [NES] - Let's Play/Walkthrough
109I have fond memories of this game from watching my dad play it way back when I was 3 or 4 years old. It is gruelingly difficult, and pretty frustrating, but once you know what you have to do, it becomes just another one of those hard NES games that feels good to beat. Below are the game details:
STORY
Milon lives in the land of Hudson where people use music to communicate with each other. However, Milon does not have the ability to communicate. He always asked himself why he is the only one who lacks the ability to understand people and music. One day he decides to travel throughout the land of Hudson to search for other people like himself. Before leaving for his trip, Milon decides to visit Queen Eliza who lives in Hudson's Secret Castle. When Milon arrives at the Secret Castle, the people were being attacked by the Evil Warlord from the north region. The warlord robs the people of all their musical instruments and occupies the Secret Castle. Queen Eliza is held captive deep inside the Secret Castle by the Warlord and his demon-monsters. Milon volunteers to fight the Evil Warlord and his demons and to rescue Queen Eliza and the musical instruments for the people of Hudson. This will not be an easy task. The Secret Castle has many different rooms and each room is a maze filled with demons, secret passages and doors. However, the Castle's Magician tells Milon that Queen Eliza has hidden many tools, instruments and money to help him. The Magician also gives Milon a magic "Bubble" to assist him in finding the places where the helpful items are hidden and where they may be bought.
OBJECT OF THE GAME
1. Enter the Castle and solve the puzzle of each maze-room.
2. Find and save the hidden money and 12 helpful items.
3. Destroy each of the seven demon-monsters lurking in the Castle and collect seven crystal balls. The crystal ball is your key to advance to the next level of the Castle.
4. Find the Queen's crown and staff
5. Defeat the Evil Warlord on the 4th floor of the castle
PICKUPS
1. Hidden Key: Unlocks the shop and exit doors in the area in which it was obtained. Only appears after a certain amount of blocks and enemies are destroyed.
2. Umbrella: Increases the firing rate of Milon's bubble
3. Honeycomb: Increases max health and fully heals
4. Hudson Bee: Puts a 2-hit shield around Milon that can be increased to 4 hits if blue hearts are collected at full health
5. Blue Hearts: Heal one health point
6. Money: Adds $1 to the total funds
7. Music Box: Transports Milon to a bonus stage to earn money
8. Magic Balloon: Allows Milon to escape the Well instantly
9. Queen's Crown: 1 of 2 items needed to reach 4th floor
10. Queen's Staff: 1 of 2 items needed to reach 4th floor
SHOP ITEMS
1. Shrink Potion: Allows Milon to shrink after hitting a boxing glove
2. Spring Shoes: Allows Milon to jump high where springs are set
3. Vest: Blocks some damage from fire
4. Medicine: Makes invisible blocks visible
5. Blimp: Allows Milon to descend slowly after jump
6. Feather: Allows Milon to stand on elevator in one level
7. Skate Shoes: Increases the height of Milon's jump
8. Canteen: Milon's bubble can now damage fire & late game enemies
9. Excalibur: Increases the strength of bubble
10. Hammer: Breaks down walls outside the castle
11. Saw: Breaks black windows outside the castle
12. Lantern: Lights dark areas like the Well

#1 - Yellow Dragon: Allows you to Continue after Game Over by holding Left + START
#2 - Brown Turd: Increases size of Milon's Bubble
#3-7: Do nothing, but are needed to reach the 4th floor
