We look at Minecraft, its history, and give a brief overview of the different systems on which it can be played. Touching on the Xbox, Mobile, and Computer versions of the game, we look at their relative merits and how the experience will differ for children between each.
Focusing on why the home computer version has become popular through Youtube video and social media, we look at what extra freedoms it allows, such as mods and texture packs. These can be awkward to install for those not technically minded, so we point you in the right direction.
The first stage was to download Minecraft. We grabbed Minecraft 1.6.2 (https://minecraft.net/download), the most recent version of the game. Following this, we explain how Magic Launcher (http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/939149-launcher-magic-launcher-117-mods-options-profiles-news/), and Forge 10.0.818 (http://files.minecraftforge.net) can be used in tandem to begin adding new elements to the base game.
All this should prepare you for the next two videos, in which we will be discussing some of the different, third-party developed, resources for the game.
