2In case you are wondering, this contraption does indeed legitimately solve the Rubik's Cube from any of it's 43 quintillion possible permutations. It is terribly inefficient because it does it piece by piece without any regard for the remaining pieces but it gets it done. It generally takes around 150 moves and around 2:30 to solve.
Here are answers to a few common questions:
How long to build? Maybe 50 - 60 hours, lots and lots of redesigning and troubleshooting.
How does it work? Each position in the cube has a fixed redstone signal strength provided by an analog lever. All of the faces have sensors (Redstone Links) attached to them. Those signals are processed where needed and sent into redcoders that decide what instructions to send to the cube.
Can you manually manipulate the cube to solve it yourself? You most certainly can.
Will you optimize it? Not likely as it would become significantly more complex. It can probably be done though.
