The Asteroid did not destroy the planet but instead corrupted it, killing the land and mutating the animals and people that lived there.
Religion
A large number of the planet's survivors saw this event as divine intervention from god, forming cults and fighting anyone who disagreed with their beliefs. High Priestess Astrid is the leader of the impactolites, extremely powerful and brutal in her beliefs.
